A
LITTLE MORE TO SAY ABOUT THIS EVENT:
The
annual Reggae by the Pier music and arts festival
is forced to come to an abrupt hault as a result
of unfortunate financial neglect.
The
purpose of the "Reggae by the Pier"
festival is to create a positive cultural event
that everybody including whole families with
childrencan love.
We
encouraged community participation not only
to contribute to funding, but to benefit from
the publicity of having this fun musical and
art-filled attraction, nestled in the heart
of California's oceanic beauty - here in Oceanside!
The
city of Oceanside is a "military settlement"
and is struggling to touch economic prosperity.
To achieve this status, it is imperative to
celebrate family oriented events to fullfill
the city's potential and be recognized as the
tourist haven it should be.
The
last two years of Reggae by the Pier have been
undoubtedly successful. Positive feedback has
flooded our mailbox from people throughout the
country who attended. Earth Culture and Yard
Records have provided the majority (almost all)
of the funding to make this event happen, two
times in a row. But this year we are unable
to do it again, as it looks like there is still
nobody else out there that wants to support
us or the idea of this kind of event.
We
start to wonder if there might be an ethnical
problem with us doing this event, as other people
in other cities have successfully been able
to do the same we were trying.
Or
maybe it is about the different type of people
that seem to walk the earth nowadays - nobody
wants to do something for someone else any more
unless they get a lot out of it for themselves.
Think:
When was the last time you heard that someone
got stabbed or shot at a reggae festival? Do
people have fights at these concerts? Would
you see people walking around being agressive?
Face
it: Reggae is not dangerous and it is not just
about smoking weed and running around with dreadlocks,
it is about one loving family listening and
enjoying good music.
